More Than a Pastor (with Rich Avery)

In this episode Jon and Les talk with Rich Avery from More Than A Pastor.  Rich has served in pastoral ministry for over 20 years.  All throughout his ministry he has been drawn to, and often had involvement in, other entrepreneurial pursuits in addition to his pastoral work.  His newest business is focused on helping other pastors just like himself realize that they too are “more than a pastor.”   Some of the topics we discuss in this interview are:

  • It’s possible for a pastor to have a heart for both the church and the marketplace.  You don’t need to make them choose one over the other.
  • Rich talks about his involvement in real estate over the years.
  • Rich shares his business model he’s building with “More Than A Pastor.”  This is an example of what we at Entre Pastors call the information-based path.
  • There are some massive shifts taking place in our culture which will have a significant impact on many churches' abilities to pay their pastors in the future.  Pastors would be wise to develop alternative income streams in light of these growing trends.

In the backstage portion of this episode Rich shares some of the obstacles that he has and is dealing with on his Entre Pastor journey.  Like so many other aspiring entrepreneurs, Rich struggles with mindset issues which cause him to question whether or not he has a message worth sharing, or struggling to overcome imposter syndrome.
